SKSS entered into a JV with Maruti Udyog in 1986 under which the latter took a 10% stake in the equity share capital of SKSS. Commercial production started in October 1987 with an initial production capacity of 0.125mn steering gears per annum. Subsequently, facilities for axle shafts, propeller shafts and sector shafts were also built. Koyo entered into an MOU with SKSS for sourcing steering components in 1992 and picked up 8% stake in the company.
