A Rahul Bajaj company, Maharashtra Scooters as the name suggests is in the business of making scooters. The company's income from operations/ other income was Rs 71.84 crore (for the year ended March 31, 2003) while net assets were Rs 173.13 crore (as on March 31, 2003). The company was originally set up as a joint venture between Bajaj Auto and Maharashtra government. In 1974-75, Maharashtra Scooters was co-promoted by Bajaj Auto. A plant was set up at Satara and production of Priya scooters commenced in 1976. After a two-year tussle with Western Maharashtra Development Corporation (WMDC), Maharashtra Scooters is all set to emerge as a Bajaj Auto subsidiary.
