It is engaged in the manufacture of caustic soda, liquid chlorine and hydrochloric acid with an installed capacity of 300 tpd of caustic soda. Sodium hypochlorite, barium sulphate and hydrogen gas are by-products. The plant is located at Naya Nangal, District Ropar, Punjab. The 83,820 tpa plant is located in Ropar, Punjab. PACL sells its products directly to the bulk consumers, viz., paper and pulp units, water works, etc. Supplies to other customers are made through a network of dealers/agents in North India and state of Gujarat, with over 60% of the production being sold in Punjab. Future Plans:
Caustic soda industry being power-intensive, the company is taking steps to cut down power costs. In this direction, the company is converting its existing 170 tpd mercury cell caustic soda plant into a 200 tpd membrane cell plant at a cost of Rs 860 mn, after successfully commissioning 100 tpd membrane cell project based on HOECHST-UHDE membrane cell technology. The project is likely to be completed in FY'98. To ensure long-term viability, PACL is also setting up a 51mw naphtha-based power plant.
