Lanxess ABS a pioneer in introducing engineering thermoplastic such as ABS(Acrylonitrile-butadine-styrene) and SAN(Styreneacrylonitrile)in India, qualifies for all the above-mentioned qualities. Lanxess is a market leader in India in this segment with more than 60 per market share and has recently expanded its SAN and ABS manufacturing capacity. With growing demand for the ABS plastic, Lanxess is going for another round of expansion for its ABS facility in next two years.Consumer durable and automobile industries are the major consumers of ABS plastic. With both the industries on the faster growth track, demand for the speciality plastic is expected to grow rapidly. The company, which was earlier known as Bayer ABS, changed its name to Lanxess ABS in January 2005, after transfer of its 51 per cent share Holders from Bayer Industries to Lanxess India(Pvt)Ltd, a 100 per cent subsidiary of Lanxess Deutschland GmbH. Lanxess DG, and Euro 6.8 billion group, is a global player in rubber, chemicals and engineering plastics.
Lanxess ABS has plants at Nandesari, Moxi and Katol all situated in Gujarat. It has recently increased its SAN capacity at Nandesari plant to 65000 TPA from earlier levels of 36000 TRA. The SAN polymer is used for the captive consumption for making ABS and is also sold as the merchant product in open market. The increase in the capacity of SAN has helped Lanxess to increase its ABS capacity from 48000 TPA to 60000 TPA.
The company also owns a state-of-the-art R&D centre at its Moxi plant. The R&D centre is part of the global technological development network and supports global product development with cost efficient and high quality development services.
