JPL was incorporated as a private limited company in 1964 and became public in 1986. Its primarily a family owned company and Mr Jagmohan Singh Kochhar (the Chairman & Managing Director) looks after the company affairs. The company manufactures 4 bulk drugs and over 50 formulations. JPL has manufacturing facility at Faridabad. In 1992 JPL floated a subsidiary company Jagsonpal Export India (P) Ltd to carry out exports of bulk drugs and active ingredients. In 1998 JPL sold off its subsidiary. JPL has presence in female healthcare, anti-arthritis, analgesics, anti-inflammatory, steroids and anti-fungal therapeutic segment. Its Maintain (progestrones) ranks #2 in its therapeutic segment and is growing at more than 30% per annum. JPL's bulk drug business accounts for nearly 6% of the total turnover. The company mainly manufactures four bulk drugs namely Dextrapropoxyphene, (DPP), Tolnaftate, Thiopental acid and Thiopental NA. These four bulk drugs accounts for nealry 80% of the sales of bulk drugs. DPP is consumed mainly in-house. The company also launched improved formulations in the therapeutic segment of anti-infective (doxycycline ) and anti-inflammatory (indomehtacine). The company has also tied up to manufacture and market formulations in anti-oxidant and hormones.
