Riga Sugar Company Limited (RSCL), the flagship company of DHANUKA GROUP has Sugar(3700 TCD), Distillery(50 KLPD) & Organic Fertiliser factories in North Bihar (India) located at village and railway station, Riga, on Narkatiaganj- Samastipur meter gauge section of Northern Eastern Railway. DG Vitta Vinimay & Properties Limited which is controlled by P.L. Dhanuka family is holding company of RSCL holding 59.82% of shares. SUGAR: Company's sugar factory is one of the oldest sugar factory in India which was set-up in 1933 by The Belsund Sugar & Industries limited under British Management which was taken over by Dhanukas in 1950. Under the Scheme of Arrangement as sanctioned by Hon'ble Calcutta High Court the sugar factory was transferred w.e.f.1.10.1981 to Riga Sugar Company Limited which was incorporated on 2nd September,1980. The initial installed capacity of the sugar plant was 800 TCD which was increased to 1200 TCD in 1956 than increased to 2000 TCD in 1987-88. In 1995-96 the company undertaken Expansion-cum-Diversification scheme whereby the capacity of sugar plant was increases to 2500 TCD and Distillery Plant of 50 KLPD was set-up. Products:
1. Sugar:
For Sugar the main raw material is sugarcane which is procured from farmers in when it is harvested during the months of November to April. As such sugar is seasonal industry which run during the harvesting period of sugarcane. The price of sugar cane is determined by central govt. under Essential Commodities Act, 1951 known as Statutory Minimum price(SMP). However the sugar factory ha to pay state advised price /agree price which normally remains highest than SMP. Total cultivatable area of the company is 420231 acre and in around 15-20% of the same is used for cane harvesting involving about 50,000 gerowers spread over 1639 villages. The factory area have one of the biggest commond area in where there is tremendous potential for sugar cane cultivataion.
