Thiru Arooran Sugars was promoted by Mr.V.T.Mudaliar in 1954. It is currently managed by Ram V. Tyagarajan who, along with his friends and associates, has a 40% stake in the company. The company is one of the most integrated sugar manufacturers of India. It has got 2 manufacturing plants, Kollumangudi and Tirumandankudi in Tamil Nadu. Total crushing capacity is 7500TCD. Both the plants are located in region well connected by road and rail. The company also has a subsidiary under it, Shree Ambika Sugar Mills with crushing capacity of 7500 TCD and 2 plants located at Kottur (2500 TCD) and Pennadam (5000 TCD)(acquired from Aruna Sugars and Enterprises Ltd). The company has a major interest in co-generation and has a capacity of 47MW. Products: Based on contribution of various products to total turnover the business can be divided into three divisions, namely, Sugar, Co-generation and Alcohol. 1. Sugar Division: he core business of the company is manufacture of sugar. The company's sugar division contribution to total sales was at 68% during the period ending June'00. Thus registering a growth of 18% points. During the 15-month period ending June'00 the company crushed 1661809 MTs of sugarcane at an average recovery of 8.6%. Of the total sugarcane crushed 1085761 MTs of cane was crushed in sugar season of 1999-00 at average recovery of 8.94% while remaining, 576048 MTs was crushed in later part of 1998-99 at an average recovery of 7.52%. 2. Alcohol Division / Distillery: This division of the company contributed 11% of the total revenues during the year as compared to 14.6% in the previous year. The company has two distilleries, one at Tirumandankudi and one at Pennadam belonging to the subsidiary. The distilleries use molasses to produce extra-neutral alcohol, rectified spirit and denatured spirit.
