About Exchange:It was established by a government decree on the 2nd of July 1920. dealings concentrated mostly on gold and foreign exchange. This market, which was the first in the Middle East, attracted investments fro France and Syria in addition to Lebanon. dealers included the mixed French-Syrian-Lebanese concessionaires of public utility companies, namely : Beirut Electricity, Aleppo Electricity, Latakia Asphalt and Petroleum, Beirut Port Company, Damascus and Hama Rail Road Company, Beirut Water Company, Radio Orient, Regie Company and Lebanese French Real Estate Company.

About Exchange:The Palestine Securities Exchange (PSE) was incorporated as a private shareholding company in early 1995, with the Palestine Development & Investment Company (PADICO) and (SAMED) as its major investors. After the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) approved a PADICO - sponsored design and work plan in July 1995, a project team was put together by the PSE and entrusted to establish a fully electronic exchange and depository. EFA Software Services, a Canadian Company, provided both the trading and settlement & clearing systems. By August 1996 the Exchange was fully operational and on November 7th of that year, the PSE signed an operating agreement with the PNA, allowing for the licensing and qualification of brokerage firms to take place. On February 18th 1997, the PSE conducted its first trading session.

About Exchange:Securities trading in Israel dates back to 1935, when the Anglo-Palestine Bank Ltd., together with pre-state Israel's leading banks and brokerage firms, founded the Exchange Bureau for Securities, which acted as an unofficial stock exchange. Trading and listings increased over the next decade, and when Israel was founded in 1948, the authorities made an effort to establish an official bourse.
